Hi

Is there any advantage or disadvantage in using a compression fittings instead of solder
or even pushfit. required for radiator pipes. Looking for solution that will last the longest as I will be tiling the floor etc.

Thanks
D

Always use soldered joints where they'll be inaccessible. Compression joints can be handy where it's not possible to dry out the pipes or there will be problems heating them up. Likewise, push fit have their uses but not in your case.

Hmm! Agree with wheeto. The others rely on mechanical parts to stay water tight. back nuts can be knocked as pipes and floors move an grab rings can weaken. Solder can also corrode of course but it does take time.

Its not scientific but if you had a jointed pipe and gave it an accidental kick which one would you think stood the best chance of not leaking? For me its the soldered joint.

A rule I tend to use is if it's too dangerous to solder then compression and if you can't get the spanners in then pushfit.

Always use soldered joint if in inaccessible areas. As long as your soldering is upto scratch you can be sure the joint will be sound for years to come.

soldered is defo the best, imo if pipes are hidden i prefer to use push fit over compression, i had so many leaks over the years from compressions weeping when getting knocked and banged etc!
