what are the regs for fitting 32mm conensate pipe seems a bit excessive is that just when it goes external or what cheers

you mean from boiler with 21.5mm out of building into 32mm waste after 1metre to prevent freezing?.

Its not excessive. What wiothcall outs to frozen condense being immense at the moment I have come accross some which have been done in 32mm that have still frozen.

i always take 32mm through the wall and make sure theres a good fall but after the last 2 winters may use waterproof lagging too from now on !!

Wow, that's truly bonkers. Well I suppose the question is what you do once you've come off the 15mm at the appliance.???

Out of curiosity, do you have a link to the boiler manual, what on earth does that say???!!! The mind boggles.

I dont really want to mention the boiler make as it would kind of give away who i work for and as i have a thread about hopefully working for myself...... well you never know who reads these. I will have a read though and see what they say. Its one of those micro combined heat and power (Mchp) boilers. I did have one the other day that hadnt frozen it had just airlocked .

what do you reckon to the mchp units? feel free to pm me, I'm quite interested in these.

Well to be fair combis were rubbish when they first came out werent they? lol. No seriously if they are installed in the correct place ie. not in a kitchen in open plan living (had loads of complaints as they are quite noisy) , but manufacturers instructions do recomend to be fitted in garage, utility or a plastic shed like you put the ground source pumps in. They have to be installed well ie. flushed and then flushed again and add loads of fernox, fit spiravents and make sure theyre cleaned out annually, the waterways are very small. An annual service is expensive as theres alot to do at different temperatures (time consuming) plus you need to carry nitrogen to top it up annually and you need a laptop to get it to do what you want on a service. I personally think they need to be fitted in old houses with alot of heat loss as they work better if they just chug along slowly allday (you get more KW put back into the grid or free electric)
