Connecting a bottle trap to a Reginox sink

How do I connect a bottle trap to a Reginox sink?? Something I thought would be easy!

Very nice it is but I am a very (to put it slightly) peed off as I cannot connect a bottle trap to it. A standard bottle trap will not fit to the waste outlet as there is no where for the spigot / O ring on to fit into. I have tried cutting down the spigot of a trap I had but it seems as if I need a trap with a flat washer. (Is there a name for the female part where a spigot would go?)


I went on a shopping expedition today to buy a suitable trap - after 40 miles, 2 DIY outlets, a builders merchant, 2 plumbers merchants and a kitchen showroom I was advised to buy a replacement waste outlet so I could fit a standard trap. So eventually I found a replacement waste outlet - a mere £8. Arriving home I found it would not fit ... the sink was too thick. I tried to use the longer waste screw that came with the original sink ---- but the thread was different. Eventually I noticed that there was a "continental adaptor" in the pack (no idea why that would be needed as the bottle trap fitted fine). It screwed onto the waste outlet and I could then screw in the bottle trap. (Problem solved - no) But it leaks - there is not enough thread on the waste outlet to allow the nut to be screwed on fully and tighten against the washer.


Rather than trying a bodge with PTFE, or making the nut thinner are there any suggestions - I am not happy with the fit of the adaptor nut nor the length and strength of the thread on the bottom of the waste trap.

Never Never Never fit a bottle trap to a kitchen sink - they get full of grease and nasty stuff.

You can get a deep basket waste suitable for ceramic sinks but you may have to search the net and not all plumbers merchants will stock them.

What you want is a P trap underneath

it is not advisable to put a bottle trap on a kitchen sink because of food particules could make it loose its seal

Would a U trap have a flat washer to connect to the waste outlet?

Have you tried contacting the supplier or the manufacturer to see what they advise?

U trap (running trap) is unsuitable. You need a P trap or an S trap and yes they have a washer where you connect to the waste outlet.

i would do what resolute suggested and contact the manufacturer for advice

PS you need a basket strainer waste designed for a ceramic sink as most of what the plumbers merchants stock are only suitable for stainless steel sinks.

yep had this problem before the screws a lot longer on the ceramic sinks had to order one in no one keeps them in stock
