Been using a sparky core drill mainly use it to core holes for the flue only it seems to grab alot and nearly breaks my wrist before i purchased the drill i used a ordinary dewalt hammer drill with a good clutch used that for about 3 years before it finally gave up just thinking of going back to a ordinary dewalt D25213K sds plus hammer drill Just wondered what your thoughts were on core drills

I have had my Makita drill for years and its paid for itself no end, imho best
to use the drill designed for the job, I remember nearly being thrown off
a ladder core drilling and not using a proper drill.

Have said previously drill for cores must have clutch if you can`t afford one get customer to pay for hire of one till you can afford one🙂regards turnpin

and the holes in my tongue would second that ouch, remember when i did that using a clutch less sds blood everywhere

Thanks for your reply's will probably go for the makita core drill when i bought the sparky i assumed it would have a clutch on it

Been looking at that myself. Varying reviews on it have left me a bit undecided. Does the clutch tend to kick in quite easy?

yes buy only if the bits worn, had min e 4 years so there are probably better ones about now

i got makita and it is very good used to try and core with sds years ago it wrks to an extent then you have to try and core through a thick wall and the sds dont work and sticks and nearly kills you...
makita core gun has paid for itself and plus due to the clutch i wont snap my wrist,,,,

Rubbish hilti dd110 with hilt cores using hilti starter bits no need for pilot holes, bits are 500 mm long so in most cases straight through with no messing around, for deeper holes you just put on an extension. I have mine on fleet hire from hilt including the vacuum which enables dust free coring guaranteed, it costs about 45 quid a month and the cores get re-tipped worth every penny. Never have to core from outside in up ladders because of dust etc. Never seen another tool that compares. If you fleet hire it all maintenance is free and you are never without the tool. The bits are a bayonet fit as well which is dead easy.

never had probs drilling flue holes , practiced many a times as an apprentice ,,,,brute force and ignorance

i had to core alot of 4" and 2" holes for 3 toilets i installed few months ago, took me 6 hours was like a chimney sweeper after it! luckily i had ear defenders
