Hi,

I'd be very grateful for any help in trying to identify the external filling loop for my Worcester boiler. I'm waiting for the plumber but he's been delayed. I should say right now that I know virtually nothing about boilers.

The pilot light on my boiler is lit but the main light won't fire up so I have no hot water. This happened last night. One minute it was working, but when next tried to use the hot tap no hot water came out.

The plumber asked on the phone this morning what the pressure is, and it's very low - approx 0.4 of a bar. He said it might just be that the pressure needs to be increased, and he's going to try to drop in to do it. He's been to my house before and he thinks the loop is in a small loft space over my kitchen. I've been up there with a ladder and can clearly see a flexible metal hose connected at each end to copper pipes, but I'm checking here because the setup doesn't look exactly like those I've seen on the internet this morning while waiting for the plumber.

At the 'bottom' connection there's a large white plastic cap--square at the end that faces me--with the words 'Off' and 'On' written on it, and arrows showing that I would need to turn it anti-clockwise to turn it on. There doesn't seem to be anything for me to turn at the 'top' end, but the example I saw on the internet showed somebody opening valves at each end. This is the main reason I'm unsure. I tried turning it, but it was very stiff. I think I'd need to use some kind of spanner thing.

Can anyone please tell me whether this is likely to be it? I've searched the cupboard that the boiler sits in but I can't see one there, and--again--the plumber did think from memory that it was above the kitchen in the loft space.

Very many thanks for any help!

Shirley
