moony

had a customer question my plumbing today to the builder i am working for...

basically i have added 4 radiators to a system, enlarged the boiler alls well.

2 problems

vertical rad - valves are weeping i can sort this but they are the valves that have a rubber washer and a brass cone with a split in it. anyone had problems with these?

next problem

header tank is now overflowing when boiler is on (water hot) i have explained due to the new rads been added and the system now having more water in it that the header tank may need to be made bigger to cope with the added expansion.... am i right in suggesting this - the customer has totally blanked this suggestion and is asking the builder to get someone in to make the decision on what needs to be done even if they assist me in doing it.

i have never had anyone question me before and i have always give my honest opinion and not tried to rip anyone off but this job has drained me to be honest.. loads of extras that i have yet to add to the bill and its getting to me now.

the overflow is quite lkow in the tank also - i am open to suggestions on this.

cheers

Use ptfe on tails
Header tank is a standard size try turning pump down 1
What size was boiler? and what size did you change to?
what size was the rads you added?

pump speed is on 2 now would you lower it to one.

ive changed the system from a gravity hot water to fully pumped s plan.

there is no by pass - should i put one in ?
and also an automatic air vent ?

boiler was 14 kw changed to a 19 kw

vertical was 300 x 2000
1200 x 600 double panel double conv
300 x 600 single with single convector

Yes turn pump down to 1 if that don't sort you could tee the feed and vent together to couse more resistance
Auto bypass don't think you will need one as I presume the colum rad not have trv

yes columnn rad does have a trv but the bathroom one hasnt so thought i would be ok to be honest.

the f and e cistern is on the floor in attic so there is not much pipework between the point in which the feed and expansion are connected to system.

would auto air vents help ? a friend has suggested this?

Can't see AAVs doing anything
Try the pump on speed 1 if that don't sort it I'd change to combined feed and vent
Hope you get sorted mate

would lifting the f and e cistern higher help?

will try on speed one though first simple option

Some people extend the length of expansion pipe so that takes up the extra expansion. Also check the route the pump is taking I'm rubbish at explaining but it might be that the pumps easiest run is straight up the expansion just a suggestion?

the vent currently is at least 1300mm above and down so plenty of room for moving the f and e tank higher.

i think the pipwork could be better

flow comes up and then there is a tee - straight up goes to vent - off the branch goes to the pump in between tee and pump the feed is tee'd in its correct but i woul probably be more comfortable with the vent not going straight up off the tee?

I probably just say nothing and change this if your not happy with it just get it sorted. No one like comebacks lol
