Hi chaps,

Is it possible to repair a crack in a soil pipe - the crack is actually in a collar fitting which has a branch running off to the bath/basin. The crack is fairly major and would take a bit of filling - maybe 5mm across at top. It is PVC by the way

cheers,

dave

For a temporary/diy bodge repair cut a section of soil pipe in half, use lots of solvent gap filling cement, jubilee clip this round the crack in the soil pipe.

I've used some kind of repair kit before. It worked on a hairline crack in the pipe but not on a fitting. when we tried that it still leaked. the fitting was in a really awkward place aswell. but now i'd always change the fitting.

you can get a gap filling adehsive from polypipe or any good merchants may take a few layers to fill the crack

If it's on a straight section of pipe, a good permanent repair is to cut a piece of upvc soil pipe and cut a wide strip down one side so it resembles an elongated clip on boss clip. Clean down the inside of it and the outside of the soil pipe, liberally coat both with gap filling solvent adhesive and clip it over and secure with 2 jubilee clips.
