I rent a shipping container as a lock-up. Lots of containers in the yard, mostly builders and shopkeepers. A couple of time when I've been there on a weekend I've noticed one of the containers open, a white van parked outside and literally dozens of power tools piled up. All different brands and types. I've also heard something that sounded like an angle grinder or one of those engraving machines.

Didn't want to look TOO closely in case they turned nasty, or realised that I was looking. Looks a LOT to me like stolen tools, with the serial numbers being ground off.

Was there again yesterday and saw the same thing. Phoned Crimestoppers, nobody answering the phone. Called police on 101 (non-emergency no.) gave as much detail as I could, they said somebody would be there within 60 minutes, and call me later for more info. Nobody turned up, no call. Really not sure how to pursue this to get it checked out.

I may be wrong - in fact I hope I am, and I'm prepared to be embarrassed and apologise if so, but if the police can't even be arsed turning up I don't know what I can do...

dial 999 explain situ and leave it at that, if they give you a hard time point out you believe criminal activity is taking place and they can catch the blighters, coppers love that, no work involved

Ironically, if they'd turned up yesterday they'd have caught them.

you got a local cop shop, could just pay them a visit and tell them

Don't even know where the local plod shop is mate. They closed them all down one by one. There is a shop down the high street - literally a shop front, where someone is around 3 or 4 hours a day, 3 or 4 days a week, but it's a civilian staff member or PCSO not a police officer.

if theres nothing local and there not bothered theres not much you can do

the only other way is inform the landlord/container owner that you think theres stolen goods in one of his units but that might land you in hot water with the tenants

It could be ex hire gear being made ready to sell on.
But does look dodgy.
I wouldn't keep using a lock up there if they thought you had reported them.
Probably should have reported it looked like guns being made.

But remember mas, snitches get stitches and end up in ditches!

Yeah but imagine if your tools got nicked...

I find it really odd - when we hear of vans being done, tools being nicked we're all up in arms about how we'd smash the feckers up and hope they get caught and locked up. But we'll all also say grassing someone up is scum behaviour!
