I suppose in the present economic climate we can expect cut backs all round.

The housing market can hardly be expected to boom if people have no money.
The same for refurbishment work and many big capital programs.

But landlords do not have much choice about things like gas servicing or repairs. They have to get them done. But they will probably have people falling over themselves for the work.

Interestingly, in what must be the 80's one of my mates was telling me that big companies where tendering for work as much as 2-3% below cost if I remember right.

I suppose if your financing a 5% loan and can't get any work, then loosing 2% is better than having to find 5%. So it would pay them to price under to get work. And of course they would hope to make it up later on.

At that time cheerful as it may seem, the mortgage rate was 17.5%.

This time though it is said to be going to be as bad as after WW2. The thing is the country was virtually bankrupt then. Yet because it was the right thing to do, we started the Welfare state at the same time.

However work wise it seems that the only people who wil have much are housing associations, who will probably be squeezed as well and so be looking for rock bottom prices.

Err! You need a Plumbers licence for Australia by the way!! 🙂 🙂

🙂🙂🙂🙂
