Following the first plumber storming off the job, we have now contacted two plumbers and after looking at the work they have decided they cannot do the job. I find this suspicious. Why go to a job when we told him it's a complete bathroom project, only to tell us a couple of days later he can't do it? I'm wondering if that first plumber left his opinion on me with some kind of tradesman database. Of course it's going to be one sided. Or perhaps because we've bought the suite ourselves and they like to overcharge for that on the quote?

We've got bath, basins, radiators all ready. And people are wondering why the jobs are going to the Polish...bloody lazy English. 😡

no there is not the problem is taking over someone elses work is allways a minefield as if i come to you and say its going to cost x pounds only to find problems created by previous plumber and you wont want to pay more and i will be out of pocket
its nothing to do with being lazy and normally it isnt quite one sided ime sure both you and orig plumber share a portion of the blame here
post where you are and i am sure someone will chime up to look at the job and price it

jobs go to polish and other eastern block plumbers, not because we are lazy or overcharge, but mainly because people are looking for a cheap job.if you live in this land on a permanent basis you like the custermer have to pay inflated taxes rates etc.what you get in a lot of cases when you except the cheapest quote is cut corners and poor workmanship and basicly that is what you deserve.and yes it would be good to have a site to put dodgy clients on ,but the legal implications would stop you

in 35 years i can only recall one bad customer some are demanding, some downright akward ,some would make shylock seem generous but generally i take the view that most of the time it all evens out as there are some realy nice people out there
but i do hate those who from the moment you walk through the door assume you the next star on rogue traders maybe its the spurs jangling ?

i know for a fact we all talk about "interesting customers" at the local merchants, and that some merchants will spread the word of a problematic customer, just so everybody is on their toes, i havnt found a bad customer data base for plumbers.

there is one for builders, but to the customers advantage, reporting rogue builders.
blacklistedbuilders.com

i think your situation is as newbie states, who knows?

Without wanting to be judgemental without knowing the whole situation (ok, that's a lie) it raises questions on what made the 1st plumber walk out. Could your tainted attitude towards plumbers be coming across when the other two guys looked at the job and this put them off, not the job itself!

What made the job complicated (worth asking the other two) if you can find this out, you can then warn any further plumbers about it 1st and if they too feel they are not up to it, at least it will save you and them time in a wasted visit.

I have my own 'bad customer database'
Top of the list is me mum, just no pleasing her, closely followed by most of the family, then neighbors and then mates from the pub
😀

if its going to go wrong its gonna be when your working for family and your fault or not its never forgotten it usually comes up about three sherries into xmas dinner

No blacklist as far as I know, it would be a legal minefield. It usually takes a least two sides to have a dispute. Why did the first plumber leave? Ok so you have the parts, personally I do not care who supplies the parts, however if they are unsuitable due to customer not seeking appropriate advice then I politely tell the customer so. There may be technical reasons why other plumbers decline. I do not feel laziness enters into it and any contractor has the right to decline a job. In fact it is a credit to plumbers who decline a job because they sense an acrimomious relationship with the customer.

When other builders saw his "handywork" they burst out laughing. 6 days, with 2 people for understairs toilet, which I prepped (removed floor tiles and wall tiles) and still not done? I have every right to be ****ed at his level of incompetence, and the sheer arrogance to say "nothing wrong with that mate" when it's falling off from the wall.

Nothing difficult about the two jobs, probably just want to sit down and watch football.

Just had another plumber round, when I showed him the stuff we bought already it's like I just raped his daughter. I have bought right bath taps, shower, basins etc. Asked me why I didn't buy WC's myself. I don't have plumbing experience to order right WC's due to difficult waste location. Don't want to waste several hundred quid ordering wrong WC's.

The reason why I'm so ****ing ****ed is after 3 months we've still got waste pipe sticking out the ground, and not done. Either wanted £7000 for bathroom which is daylight robbery, or just refusal.

Maybe I should hire polish who are willing to do the job.
