hi
recently qualified. i was wanting to venture into breakdown and emergency plumbing work not sure how i would handle working as a 24hr plumber or whether i would get the work etc, also does anybody know of any drain unblocking courses ie how to use the equipment etc and possibly some feedback from anybody doing work in this area . sorry if ive posted in the wrong area. thanks

what area are you in ? dont know of any courses for drains im afraid. Rods and a plunger I have used to unblock drains, anything else is specialist equipment which isn't cheap.

hi 6quigly67
im based in walsall, i started self employment six weeks ago and have done some installation work, but im finding ie on full central heating systems customers seem to get the cheapest quote possible and they seem to think their getting the same quality of work, which sometimes they dont! ive tried to tell customers what service i will provide so they know exactly what their getting, but there are people prepared to undercut just to get the job. (sign of the times i think) i am now looking at venturing into landlord gas checks/ servicing/breakdown and drain unblocking, but the specialist drain equipment might be expensive so will just use plunger. i was also looking at contacting estate agents to try and get landlord gas safety work off them, but will they want some sort of commission off me? thanks for replying 6quigley67

As of mid October this year all lateral drains and private sewers in England will come under the control of local drainage authorities. As such the amount of drainage work out there available to small firms is going to drop hugely. The only drainage work small firms will be left with is blockages in soil stacks before the lateral drain run. Not worth investing in drainage equipment now imo. Anyone want to buy my drain jetter?? 🙁
