Apparently, my flue needs dropping and resealing as water is leaking into the boiler causing it to stop working. Is this a plumbers job or roofers or both? Any idea of costing for this?

Also, I need to try sue the company that installed it, as it was installed incorrectly. Is there an official government website where I can log a complaint about a plumber?

Thanks

Chris

Why not get the installer back to take a look and correct the fault?

They are no longer in business, or changed their name and address so feel a bit stuck really.

Can you not read? I said the company that installed it are no longer in business, so how can i give them chance to fix it?

Why does that make me sound like a d***?

Ideal, which is the make of the boiler, came round and said its not been fitted correctly and said that the flue needs dropping and sealing.

Hi Daysh

Firstly get a gas safe person in ,as they will have to correct flue and they will advise you if roofer required to assist (Persume going through roof)

You can report to gas safe if the plumber you used was gas safe, however if they are not longer trading, that may be a problem, depends if company reg or personal

With regard any legal action ,if again not any longer trading, could well be a waste of time and money, because at the end of the day if you sue someone it is usually for compensation and if they are no longer trading, there will be no one to pay,so think a matter of getting flue sorted out and putting down to experiance
Good luck

ha sthe leak appeared over time or has it breen leaking since day 1. also ideal boilers are not very good so might pay you to get a second opinion which ideal boiler is it.

its not a case of the vertical flue being so short that they have used only the terminal which your not allowed to shorten? you would need boiler lowering. Just a thought. Good luck anyway.

id like to hear more details model of boiler in what way does it need dropping vertical flues generally find there right hieght by fitting against the slate and i cant see how dropping a vertical flue will make any diffence to rain ingress
im betting the model will start with the letter I

Is it a limited company? Because if it is you havnt a leg to stand on now they've dissapeared or even changed their name.

As for the flue, get a gas safe man as its work on a gas appliance and you'll be tampering with its performance.

I've been asked to look at exactly the same problems with two residential accomodation vehicles on a site. Both have Ideal boilers and both have vertical flues. Have tried re-sealing with the correct silicon but to no avail. Cannot see any obvious problems with the joints either.
Sounds like a design fault with the ideal/flue configuration.
Didn't know if there were any terminal designs which help deflect rain?? Ideal don't have any as I've checked.
cheers
