After testing a gas valve today after speaking to Potterton tech people I was wondering if there are any manuals/handbooks available that give the info for what multimeter readings I should be looking for when testing components inside a boiler.

With so many components and so many boilers it must be near impossible to know all the required info off by heart. I'm sure when I was on the Baxi course at christmas the guy running the course said about a book their engineers use. It would make sense considering the small amount of time their engineers have to get the job done.

Does anyone know of such books available that the manufacturers give to their engineers?

Like gold dust if they do exist I bet.

Yes they were good, relaxed atmosphere and food/drinks provided.

I did the basic electrics, combi appreciation and the system wiring and controls.

I would only do them if you are doing that sort of work all the time though, the courses aren't cheap (for me anyway) but you do learn a lot, depending on your level of experience that is.

Get plenty of handouts in folders to keep which is full of good info.

I wouldn't say I have forgotten what I have learnt but sometimes feel like I need a refresher already as I don't get to use what I have learnt often enough, but that's nothing to do with the course itself obviously.

If doing the basic electrics it helps if you have an auto ranging multi meter as that is what they use to train or you can use theirs but I took my own so I could get familiar with it. Some guys were holding us up because they took meters that were so difficult to use the instructor had to keep stopping to help them out.

Definitely recommend doing the courses. Book over the phone after enquiring online to save 10%.

its the same with any course you do you come away with possibly a third of what they have taught you the only way to learn is repetition do something 50 times a day for a week and it will stick

If I could, I'd spend all day every day for a year fault finding. My boss reckons it's boring but I'd happily be bored if i was learning what I wanted to know.
