i was called to an alpha cb50 today. The pressure had been gradually decreasing and all of a sudden it became faster. I check the prv pipe and it had was not dripping but water was in the pipe and a little wet patch on the floor. So get to the expansion vessel and no charge what so ever. So i pump it to .8bar as I could not find in instructions what pressure to put in it. so i wack heating on it it rises from 1.2bar to 2.5bar. The aav by the pump has all limescale coming down from where it has been leaking. Do you reckon it is too small this vessel and I should tee one into the return?

Hi Mutley, was the vessel just deflated or could the diaphragm be ruptured?

Have you checked the pipe feeding the vessel is not blocked? If its a flexi it is easily enough popped out and cleaned.

well there was no water present when i pressed the shraeder valve. I don't think it's on a flexi. Think rigid

ah ha, i just found in the manual that the vessel should be charged to .5bar. Whoops. And here it says that you should fill system to 1bar and To
check correct operation of the expansion vessel(s) the system pressure should not be more than 2.5 bar when the system is at
maximum operating temperature... Which is what I had. So are they saying it is normal for it to rise 1.5 bar when heated??

oh alpha man, i see you deal with alphas. awesome. so all seems fine then with the vessel then? It is rising as it should?

If the house/ system is on the large side, an additional vessel might be needed!

Just check the air valve in the vessel isn't leaking, pressure will rise upto and around the 2 bar mark on these, which is very normal.

i was meant to while i was there but totally forgot. I also left my leak detection fluid in the house. So, if it has not fixed the fault, i shall go back and collect fluid and spray valve. Cheers alpha man
