Hi, wondered if someone could suggest what's causing the following symptoms.
If I turn the hot water tap on, or switch the CH on this is what happens:-
a) can here some relays switching over
b) fan doesn't start, boiler doesn't light or attempt to
c) indication on panel lights are as same as if boiler functioned correctly

I removed the cover from where the pcbs are located, reseated all connectors & boiler initially worked for a couple of days, then fault returned.

Poked around the smaller pcb & fault went, then returned 30 mins later, was using shower at the time & boiler stopped running & shower went cold. Not sure if I've answered my own question regarding what's causing the fault, or could another part of the boiler be also playing up?

Sounds like the relays for the fan could be on its way out. That calls for a PCB change unless you source and solder the relevant relays yourself.
But do not quote me on this. I only guess remotely here.

thanks, they could be the problem. One thing to note, when the boiler works ok, the start up sounds similar, relays then fan & ignition. The main relay has a clear cover on it so will note contact positions during a good start up & compare when it's not firing up correctly.

beware !!!!!!!! on the modena model main faults are venturi crumbling and thermisters , last of all the pcb .
When you take the cover of the pcb if there are burn marks on the left of the pcb ,then what can i say game over

No signs of burn marks on the pcbs, slight 'scorch' marks on the relay cover, directly above the contacts - which is probably standard on a 14 year old boiler.

The thermistors are the origional ones, would they cause the symptoms I described? Also Venturi is origional one.
