Fitting additional feed to round cold water tank

Hi just a quickie, im fitting an isolated feed for my shower and wondered about the cold water tank connection. i have a ROUND water tank and im a bit worried about the fitting, will the connection simply clamp and seal like it would on a standard flat sided tank or is there a special way to fit to round tanks to avoid distortion?

Fit it in the flat bottom of the tank

It should not matter, as long as you put extra ptfe tape on the tank connector (up against the washer, not on the threads). As tightening the tank connector up good and tight will square up the small section of the tank were you are putting the tank connector in, should be fine. Also remember to put your tank connector in opposite your ball valved inlet feed, as this will help circulate your water in the tank and prevent the build up of stagnant water in the tank.

iv been told before to never put a feed in the bottom of the tank because we have a high risk of lime build up in this area, as for the PTFE tape that sounds more like it, so i essentially create an additional floating washer on the existing washer with PTFE just to better build a seal? and do i do this both inside the tank and out?

In my opinion, i would never put a feed in the bottom of the tank, as altho the fitting will sit 3/4 of an inch up from the bottom of the tank, the slime and gunge at the bottom of the tank will find it's way in a lot easier. yes mate, tape the outer part of the fitting first, then push it through the hole you've made as hard as you can, then tape the inner piece up, as tight as you can to tank's inner wall then screw it up tight and away you go. also i would always try and clean out you're tank whilst you have it drained, just a thought.

Whats lime build up?

Feeding from the bottom is perfectly fine just make sure that the feed protrudes the tank by a height of and inch or so to avoid any crud

I May be wrong but isn't it recommended that the cold water outlet be positioned in the bottom of the tank to prevent the build up of sedement

As most tanks I have seen stand on a full platform access to base must be limited.

no just drill a hole in the plat form big enough to fit the fitting and get a spanner/grips in or tank being empty lift it across and fit the connector and put it back ..

the regs used to stipulate bottom outlets to keep tank clear , then side outlet to trap sediment, now it seems that either is permitted depending on the individual restrictions that may occur in individual installations.
