Hello,
I am fitting with some help from a GSR friend, when his precious time allows, a 3 year old combi boiler to replace a defunct 25yr old potterton combi. The boiler was only removed because the owner installed a thermal dynamic system.
On first fire up the CH worked fine although the hot water was somewhat intermittent. It was decided to clean the HW plate exchanger. After a a good few treatments using a limescale removing liquid it was noticeably more free flowing on one side particularly. The first fire up after reinstallation and re-fill/ bleed process, the boiler has locked out with the blue light flashing slowly and alternately to the reset light? I have tried holding reset for 10 seconds but no avail.
When going through the brief diagnostics listed in the boiler manual the recommended areas to investigate for a slow flashing blue light are the ignition circuitry and the gas valve. i cannot detect any loose connections but the manual states that the gas valve coils should both have resistances between 130-180 ohms. I have readings of 137 for the large coil and 389 for the smaller coil? I am worried that the way i removed the HW plate, along with pump and adjoining pipe work, rather than, in hindsight it may have been possible to just unscrew the plate and slip it out the back ( read the manual!!) In this process some water leaked over the control panel. The manual suggests if there is +5v across the red and black wires then the panel should be ok, which there is, all panel fuses are good.
Any advice to resolve the problem would be very much appreciated. Duncan
