Flueless gas fire

Alright lads,

First time iv been asked to install a flue less gas fire, so im a little sceptic!

Iv made sure the 100cm2 of free ventilation is in place, the room size is adequate, there is an openable window, the wall its installed on is fine, there are no other vents closer than 500mm!

Iv been over the MI with a tooth comb! But, is there anything u lads have came across when installing these, and another note, the commissioning procedure doesn't mention using a FGA?????

last one I serviced required fga on it, otherwise how do you tell if the cat converter is working

i know mate! il FGA it anyway, i just noticed commissioning proced never mentioned it! is there a back up safety device the cat could fail the day you leave!

May be worth ringing manufacturer to find out what readings you should have. They do have a vitiation device normaly like a gas fire although I wouldn't like to rely on it if the converter failed. Make sure you get a printout of the fga, check it against manufacturer, keep it on record to prove you have tested it and inform cust it must be serviced 1ce a year

you also normally need back round heating( a rad),you need to fga it and its essential​ to do a gas rate

gas rate was mentioned in the commisioning anyway, thats a standard!

Fit an electric one. Remove the vent

I know Simon! Customer has already purchased the fire! I normally promote customer to get electric ones rather than flueless - but this customer insists she wants this one! She contacted me because I was the local company, and she is very well known with local MPs etc etc.. So with local communities and my local housing a potential maintenance contract in future years, I dont want to not install it for her!

Sigh..when i think back to olden times when fitting flueless space heaters in the hallway was de-riguer and non of yer air vent malarky....even on towns gas.

As already stated,dont forget accurate gas rating.

One death already recorded becuase of this.

I'd insist on a mains wired CO detector before fitting it. I bloody hate flueless fires.

I've fitted a few that customers have bought. As said, do all the tests and a combustion analysis. I'd bring a good co detector too and price that into the job.

Yeah its all done, and thats exactly what we done.

However, when commisioning, the low rate pressure (4.5 mb) was ok, the high pressure was in the MI 18.7 + or - 1.5mb so a max of 20.2mb , we were getting 20.5mb

I phoned manufacturers to be told, aw thats not much is it really, just gas rate it if thats ok then its fine... lol .. they make u make the decision.
