May be a stupid question so I apologise in advance. If copper pipe (central heating) passes through an internal wall from one room to another (wall no more than 12inches) does it need to be sleeved?

Kind regards

no it does not but good practice to sleeve it,if not sleeved taped to stop cement corroding the copper

Yes, if it is a solid wall it would be wise to sleeve it. That would allow it movement which a heating pipe expanding needs & would prevent any corrosion from wall. Also very handy to replace the pipe if ever needed.

Thanks both, sort of wetting myself at the moment as I didn't do it. I'm quite new to this (change of career) so anxiety levels do a nice impression of a sine wave. Really appreciate the swift response though guys, thanks so much.

If you had to put pipes through a wall just clipping distance out in a corner, it may be too hard to drill neat holes, but if you cut a large square hole for all pipes, you can sleeve each pipe & then fill the hole with plaster with no worries.

If the wall was totally dry then good chance there is little reaction with copper pipes. A piece of round 20mm conduit pipe or 3/4" overflow pipe is handy for sleeving 15mm copper.

Thanks again both. The wall was bone dry. Your advice is now emblazoned in my mind! I think the sine wave is flattening!
