Hello
I am retired with numerous health problems and can't afford to get a plumber in. My radiators are cold downstairs and too hot upstairs, and none if the valves will turn.

I think I could manage to change the old valves to thermostatic ones, but not sure if modern 15mm will fit 1/2 inch, which they probably are. Can anyone please give me some advice on this point please.

With ill health it would be quicker and easier to get a plumber in, probably won't be as expensive as you think, also if you get any other issues a professional will be able to sort them out quickly and easily.

Thank you, have you a rough estimate for say 6 radiators please ?

It all depends what area you live in etc. There is a section on here where you can post explaining the work you want done, a lot of plumbers give you a free quote.

I would get a BIG can of wd40 and spray the rad valves with the plastic heads taken off
do it several times. Then gently turn the exposed wheel heads 1st back and fwds only a little
and spray again. Use a good adjustable or decent molegrips. Eventually you will free the
valves off. I say this because trvs are not you solution BALANCING your heating is.

No massive expense just common sense............centralheatking
