Richard at Home

I have a Y Plan Set up on my 438 Eco tec Heat Only Boiler

This is just a general question

I Run my heating ( Rads ) all day as there are people at home throughout the day

But I also have the hot water on to ensure there is always hot water if needed

My Question

Could i run the Hot water from the rads that are on most of the time anyway Through the tank coil as a link that bypasses the closed Y Plan when hot cylinder charge is not called for through a 15mm Link Pipe

This would In theory keep my tank hot throughout the day yet still allow me to open the Y Plan to charge the hot water with a top up say twice a day as standard if needed.

This would be affectively like treating the Tank Hot water coil as an additional Rad on the system

Any thoughts

Thanks

Richard

Sorry but a bit daft!

You will end up with hot water at the same temperature as your boiler. ( up to 80*!) you won't save any money either.
If you want plenty of hot water during the day, just set your programmer. At leSt then it is controlled through the cylinder thermostat .

Thanks but i may have miss explained myself a little

With ref to the 80Deg Hot water ,

the boiler is set to a max temp of 60 on the Rads ( On all Day on the Stat ) so this is the max temp my hot water tank would ever reach if running through the coil. ( Would keep the tank topped up to the Rad Temperature )

Yes the stat does work on the Hot water tank but as water is run off the recharge trips on every time a relatively small amount of water is run off to maintain a full tank of hot water all the time.

When the recharge is running yes the boiler does charge to 80 Deg this is fine as the y Plan would open as STD and heat the cylinder if needed.

Thanks

Richard

Completely pointless, just use the programmer or leave hot water on permanently, if it's a modern cylinder the heat loss will be minimal anyhow.

What's the temp set to on cylinder stat, what is position of stat on cylinder ? what is your boiler stat set at ? or just get a combi fitted !!

Don't do it. You would end up by-passing the cylinder stat so no safety feature on your cylinder.
