This post is a general pricing sort of question really,

Here goes.

I priced a job the other day, it is to replace 6 rads on a combi boiler and 5 trv's. So, far, I've measured the rooms and sat down with my mears calc to work out BTU's etc.

I've gone to the suppliers and worked out the prices etc. I've also tried to match the size of the rads to the ones present to prevent as much re-painting for the customer, as this is what she req'd. Now, I know this work is all un-paid but....

The cost retail of the rads is £1080 incl vat. Cost to me is £365 incl, cost of quality TRV is about £11 to me (incl vat)

I've estimated 2 days work, these jobs never go to plan and my thinking is this, by the time you rip out the old rad fix the new ones, damage the chipboard floor to re-do pipe work etc put in noggins to fix the floor etc. My price is £1050, breakdown is £500 for rads £75 for TRV's £400 labour then rest for bits and bobs incl inhibitor.

This does give me a bit of leeway, if pushed I can (but reluctantly) go a bit cheaper but source different/cheaper parts.

My questions are 1. is this reasonable or too cheap/expensive?

2. what is your mark up on rads etc?

Views would be greatly appreciated.🙂

Hi Secret Squirrel
Price seems ok
If I am pricing to change rads in a normal house,I would have started at £1200 as I work on £200 a rad average
adjusting if any bay rads or extra large rads, then + or -
if straight swop may include valves ,if pipework to be changed add on top
,but would be looking to do in a long day
Think your price is fair but maybe increase slightly if delivering quote by hand as it gives you a bit of leaway to come down a bit if you have to,if not hay hoe
As for removal,I have a card of the local tinker and he would pick up the old ones and that to scrap yard, along with his five washing machines and getting more and more commom old exercise bikes and equiptment ?!?

I normally make 30-40% markup on rads on top of other materials and £200 day rate.
