I recently moved into a new place and got round to pulling the case of the boiler the other night, I found some sort of toffee like substance seeping out of the top of the hex. Worcester are saying they give a 10 year warranty on the hex but want £263 for the call out fee! Anyone seen thia before?

Yes I see this fairly often on these. Before shelling out serious dosh on a new cell you could clean it out by flushing through with water with the baffles removed (make sure they go back correctly) new electrodes and gasket. Keep an eye on the seal and if the lava doesn't reappear it could just be the seal. Are you loosing system pressure?
