Guttering creepage?

I know guttering isn't really 'plumbing' as such, but thought you guys might have some wisdom about such things.
Do plastic gutters 'creep'? I've had one or two dripping leaky gutter joints that i've had to attend to. On examination, it's almost as if the gutters haven't been cut long enough - ie an end isn't covering a rubber seal as you'd expect. I was in the middle of moving a joint when I realised that the other end of the section of guttering was past the 'up to' mark. so the gutter wasn't too short, it wasn't postioned properly. I can't believe the guy who put it up didn't do it properly, so my only explanation is that the expansion contraction you'd expect has caused it to sort of move/walk along over time?

Guttering most certain is Plumbing. I must have done miles of it. Yes plastic "Creeps like mad.

What you write is a very common fault, if somebody has forgotten to leave no proper expansion gap at each joint. In point a run of gutters should also have fixed points into which the gutter can expand and contract without affecting the rest of the guttering. That way the gutter can't creep along a block of houses, only in and out of the fixed points. Its the same for plastic pipe as well.

Also a bit of silcon grease on each rubber helps. It stops it from drying out and getting torn up with expanding gutters.

Excellent, thanks Bernie2. I may think about a couple of fixed points from which the things can expand/contract, and I'll look at the silicon grease.
