Hi all

Ive got a customer who has a problem with some guttering. The guttering side of it isnt a problem, its just the downpipe that needs replacing. The downpipe is cast iron, and is badly corroded at the bottom of the pipe where it goes into the ground. Im going to need to remove the whole pipe and replace it with plastic.

Whats the best way to do this? Is there a coupler that i can use from plastic to cast iron, and whats the best way to cut the cast iron?

At the bottom of the downpipe, it goes into the ground and is cemented into place. Am i going to need to remove the cement first to get a good fit?

cheers
Andy

I think you can get a rubber gaitor to go between the two, and I also think that it's cut with an angle grinder(beware cast is heavy and you will probably need a hand if removing it bit by bit).

When you cut it with the angle grinder, get a small bit of ply or bit of a box and slide it over the cut, cause if the cast break away in small fragments you might get it blocked and go from a easy job to a.........😱

sounds like it could be a bit more involved than i thought! I was planning to get a mate in to help out with it.

Any other advice?

cheers
