great to see common sense has prevailed, and SAS solder danny nightingale has been finally been released

Jailed SAS soldier Danny Nightingale wins appeal | Law | The Guardian

justice has prevailed in this case , but how many other services/ military personnel have been let down by this government and the other @rses that are running this country. the judge that gave the original sentence should be ashamed,

it's great he's out now, but it should never have got to this stage, we must be the laughing stock of all other countries.

Don't get me wrong I think the sentence was ridiculous. The fact that it was in the public forum appalling, he should have been given a good telling off and the help he needed, if, in fact he was suffering from mental illness, which is understandable.

Lets not forget though he had a 9mm pistol with considerable ammunition in a locked box under his bed! owning this type of firearm is illegal in this country and the rule of law applies to all!

Please don't tell me 'I forgot, I didn't realise'

Problem is (and everyone is correct) the law is an bum, we'll jail a soldier but a terrorist cost us £5m a year to monitor him. There doesn't seem to be any continuity.

If you had a choice of what person had access to a weapon like this a special forces soldier would be top of your list im glad the gents out. Its simply one of the tools of his trade, but i agree a ticking off out of the public would have been enough bit naughty having something like this in civvy street. However this man isnt some street thug with gang affiliations or joe public into dodgey dealings. This man in part of the most elite special forces regiment in the world.

Wasn't a judge that jailed him, but snr army officer who due to queens regulations has the power of god and in normal circumstances wouldn't be criticised for his and his court martial boards opinion. However to be in the special forces, you have to be rather good at certain things and rather full of common sense amongst other things. Pity is that the sgt didnt use that common sense to leave the pistol in a safe place in Iraq, such that his oppos didnt post it back to him when he suffered a memory loss doing good things for others. otherwise happy for him, cant see hereford away team inviting back to play tho!

Can we all get this right, the most elite special force in the world is the SBS, smaller team does lot more interesting things to boot, and they dont like the rest of the RN just like the SAS dont like anyone.

well lets just say that the SBS and the SAS are british and the best in the world bar none!
Not nearly as hard as the GYT or Glasgow Young Team, don't mess with the best or you'll die like the rest. LOL

Seriously though, the guy should never have been jailed and yet another failure of the law in this country to protect it's citizens, not persecute them.

Shouldn't even have come to court. Someone in the chain of command should have quietly ensured that the weapon disappeared, he got the help he needed, and the paperwork got lost.

Sadly, as in all walks of life there is always someone who can't see past the rule book.

It could have been easily and quickly sorted out.

It was Tongs ya bass in my day:lol:
