Heating & Hot Water Balancing

My problem is that when the hot water is being called from the boiler the heating system struggles, ie only upstairs rads get hot, I believe I need to balance the 2 circuits.

Any idea how I do this please?

The basics are as follows


Hopefully you will have a gate valve on the return pipework coming off cylinder,open and close this and then gauge about half way and leave there,you could try a little less than half way
Then on the hottest rads,close the lock shield valve slightly and see how you go, basically you are trying to force the pumped water further round the system by restricting the flow through the nearest return pipework
