Hi Guys

Having a problem with my heating system I only get heating when the Hot water comes on and when the cylinder is at the desired temperature the boiler turns off. and to keep the CH on I used to turn the thermostat on the cylinder to about 80 which kept it on for a bit longer (but don't like that doing that) or running the tank empty of hot water.

The system is a S system. I think one of the valves is buggered as no resistance on the leaver if I change it to Auto or manual like there is on the one that goes to the cylinder .
SO I am assuming it needs replacing but just wondering if it is buggered should it still not tell the bolier to turn on to send the water round the radiators . Cause if I just have CH on the setting nothing happens unless I have HW on to.

Thanks in advance

Power off won't tell you anything. Need power on.

But in saying that you need the right gear to trace the fault and feel competent enough to use it.

Not trying to teach granny to suck eggs, but would hate to hear a story of an instant perm.
Sorry my bad. Was in a rush and didn’t explain that correctly.

If you’re getting CH when you have HW on then the valve is at least open, although sounds like you’re either not getting a feed from programmer to room stat to valve or the end switch isn’t connecting and you’re not getting a boiler feed. You say you turned up cylinder stat to prolong CH cycle but obviously this isn’t helping. You could link out the cylinder stat and put boiler stat to 60 degrees, this is only a quick fix though and will obviously keep the boiler cycling but at least you could have heating until the valve is fixed/replaced. Having said all this electrical wiring is no game, it’s obviously dangerous and you really should get an engineer out.
