Hello to all,

I'm currently working 4 days a week (not as a tradesman) but want a change of career. I have looked into quick courses and college but I'm struggling to fit in college as I work shifts and no week is the same.

Lucky for me I have a plumber friend and another friend who has a plumbing company. I'm able to gain work experience with them.
My plan is to work 1-2 days a week with them to gain experience for around a year then do a quick course to gain the qualification.

I want to build up my tool collection with only the best tools, what shall I buy first to build the basic first?

Thanks, RAW85.

Hello Raw85, welcome to the forum.
if you have someone to work with then you are in a good position.
do you have any experience of plumbing?
you might do a few weeks and hate it!
don't be to quick to start spending your money,
but a decent set of grips and an adjustable spanner will do a lot of things

Thanks for the reply.
I have little real plumbing experience but decent all round DIY skills.
This Wednesday we are changing two immersion elements and Thursday fitting a new boiling system. Really looking forward to it.
Point taken on spending too quickly.

grass is always greener etc etc. Make sure you get some site work in the snow and rain before finally deciding.

Don't worry, I'm sure I'll be covered in someone else dirt very shortly.

Hi RAW85 welcome to this forum I believe that your decision is good because if you wont like plumbing work in future then you can switch back to you job without faceing any financial loss

dont be too quick to spend on the best quality tools. wait until you are in the habit of not leaving them beneath floorboards or under baths /up in lofts before buying the dear stuff:wink_smile:

Cheers lads.

Today has been my 3rd day out, so far I've repaired a few toilets (new service valves, new flush siphon and fill valve), helped fit a heated towel rail, changed two immersion elements, solder pipes and tomorrow we are fitting a new boiler and running new pipes. Obviously all under supervision.

So far I'm loving it!
