IMG_0158.jpgHello everyone, I have been looking through the posts on this site and am very impressed by the quality of the advice and expertise.
I have what I think is a basic plumbing query but would like advice just before I get started.

We have been in our house for a few years and this shower was there before we moved in. Over the last few months the taps have started to leak. The flow control (top tap) just takes an age after a shower to stop dripping but does eventually. The temp control however needs to be turned all the way hot when the shower is finished or it simply drips non-stop.

I believe the solution is to simply change the washers - if this is incorrect please tell me - but am not sure what lies behind the taps once I have taken them off. The thing is, I have no idea what make the shower is, as there is not identification anywhere on it.

So I have uploaded a photo - can anyone identify it?

If so, or even if not, am I OK to take the taps and covers off (once isolated of course) and start taking the thing to bits? Will I need any special tools?

I'm up for a challenge and am moderate-good at DIY but have not taken on a power shower before - any help gratefully received.

Hi Mark

Welcome to the forums

I am not sure what make of shower it is,although it looks spanish,if you send picture to 'the shower doctor' they may well recognise it and be able to supply the service kit for it
If you isolate, the valve should come apart quite easily,if the only problem is turning it off,you may just need a need washer or 'o' ring for on/off lever
If you have a fixed head,it does take a short time to stop dripping,as you have the water in the fixed arm and head to contend with, also make sure shower head jets is not scaled up

Thanks puddle, I took a closer look at the shower today. The flow control does stop dripping after a bit, presumable after the standing water in the head and fixed arm has dibbled out.
However, the manual temp control will drip continuously and quickly if not turned tight to the hot setting.
Is there a washer within these valves as well which can be changes, or is there a more complicated means of controlling the flows. I don't want to strip the valve down only to find I can't fix it or put it back together!
If I do try to fix it, would you advise changing the washer in the main flow control aswell, or only mess with it if the shower is actually dripping? I presume the washer will be quite degraded as the shower is at least 10 years old.

I finally got round to taking off the panel today, which was pretty well stuck on but came off with some gentle force!

Sadly there is no indication of the manufacturer inside, only a sticker saying "tested and calibrated 036090".

As you can see from the photos there are still 2 stainless steel covers over the tap mechanisms and I can't see how these come off. Although they look like they have hexagons for a spanner they are single moulded units and I don't think they screw off. Does anyone know how they can be removed. I don't want to force anything and do something irreversible.

If anyone can help with this or identification I will be very grateful.

Mark
