Hi all,

been looking at this site for a few years now, thought I'd finally join in!
I'm a plumbing and heating engineer from the West Country (no, I don't have a brand new combine harvester - cant fit a pipe tube on it!:winkiss🙂

Been at it about 15 years or so now, 7 of those working as a an engineer for Vaillant Group service.
Looking forward to learning new things from y'all. Cheers.

Hi Tamz, I've been accused of many things (mainly by the wife), never been accused of being shy tho 🙂
Have worked on loads of different models since being SE last couple years... Ariston, ideal, remeha, Baxi, Worcester, alpha, ferroli etc etc. Personally I still prefer and tend to fit the Glow worm ultracom models. We had far less trouble with them than the Vaillant ecotec's! Slightly lower delta T (35 degrees instead of 40 with vaillant but they just slow the flow rate) Same heat engine, same engineer support, same company! £250 cheaper!... But don't tell anyone 🙂

Main hex on 831's etc.....systems new flushed, inhibited up to the gills filter on return etc, blocking on return ....heard a rumour it was a reaction to phosphates in x100, and does not happen with fernox F1? Cannot say myself as these ones were around 3 years old.......but others have had the same

They came to realise that problem, even after the updated 'white stripe' plastic pipes and all ectotec's come with copper telescopic pipes now... Much better!

Those heat exchangers are ginannoni and are all stainless steel so can't imagine any reaction occurring. Never heard of that particular theory vern. The main problem is, due to the necessary efficiency they have kept the water content very low. Those heat ex have very small coiled pipes, approx 5mm diameter which are slightly flattened as they coil round. This unfortunately leads to easy blocking by any swarf or debris that may get stuck. Never Powerflush with the boiler attached, link out flow and return and always fit magnaclean or similar. You might like to know that remeha, amongst others, also use that particular heat ex ;-). I have to say that 90%+ of the issues were to do with either old rusting radiators not being changed or incorrect flushing and failure to fit a magnaclean (or similar). On open vent system I cannot count the number of times installers didn't bother cleaning the f & e tank, causing blockages when refilling due to sludge and insect debris. There was however the odd occasion where the installer had done everything right and was just unlucky to get a blockage. 45 mins to change one out tho. Simples!

Thanks for the input......yep the avanta uses same hex as do others, strange as this happened to a friend on 2 completely new systems inc rads, pipe work all copper and new, maggie on return etc flushed with x300 hot and cold' refilled X100 added......systems never drained.... 3 years on blocked hex's, must be lime content of water? Who knows very strange

fit an intergas and youll never get a blocked phex (as they dont have one) 🙂🙂🙂
