Hi everyone. Im new to this forum and seeking advise please.
I have an old (22 years) vented 10 rad system. The pump started to run very noisy following the system being drained down to remove bathroom rad during a refurbishment. After several investigations by a plumber the valve in the cold feed from the top up tank was found to be stuck shut so the pump was running dry. Following new valve and pump, the system was still very hit and miss on heating with lots of water noise even after refill and bleeding. Next the air separator was found to be semi blocked. So, the plumber has removed the air separator all together with a 22mm pipe now only acting as the vent.
Hay presto the heating works and the rads get hot.
My issue is, I cannot get any of the rads heat to stabilise. Even with new thermostatic valves the rads are ever blisteringly hot or off ?. I have turned the boiler stat down (which does turn the boiler off if too low) and reduced the pump speed to 1, but still no joy. When I open any rad valve just a touch the rad crackles and pings and gets very hot quickly ?.
Sorry for the long post but pulling my hair out now.
