Hey there everybody let me start by saying i am currently in my final year at college finishing off my diploma in Plumbing and Central Heating, I work as a self employed subcontractor for another plumber, I have been offered work with a complete refit of a bathroom, Its a fairly simple job as its basically just a straight swap ...

- Remove a shower tray and cubicle and replace with a bath/screen
- New Basin and Ped
- New W/C
- 1x Towel Rad

I am not very confident when it comes to pricing this job up as i am just basically working on a "peasants" day rate at the moment, so i was wondering on some advice with regards to a cost on this job, I don't want to go too high to lose the work, nor do i want to go too low to sting myself. All materials are being covered by the customer so it is just a basic labor charge.

Just some advice on what you guys/girls charge and any tips on pricing work for the future would be great

Thank you

Jetco

No someone else will come do the tiling and for the work that needs doing id say 2 days

This is what im saying though, i wouldnt know a reasonable day rate as im on a really weak one atm only being an student still you see, was just trying to get a rough est on what others would charge ect

if i were you i would allow three days. probably wont need three but lets customer think you've finished job early, instead of rushing and making mistakes.

2 days seems quite optimistic if you ask me. I'd say a day to rip out, a day for first fix, a day for second fix after tiler has been in and then add an extra day for contingencies.

But then I don't like rushing installs!

Do you need to re-do any wastes? Rads?

60k would be great lol bit optomistic yet though haha , there is no real first fixing that needs doing as its just going to be one out one in , im just really struggling with a "not too high to low " day rate to work off though , being inexperienced in pricing is doing my head in 🙂 thanks for feedback so far guys

oh and one towel rad that needs moving across the wall its on already, no major problem there

Don't be too cheap but you can charge more when you become experienced in your work. I'm sure that pricing is not allowed to be discussed outside the Plumbers Arms or I'd give you a rough estimate based on your info. You can always PM me if you want that estimate outwith the forum.

When I started for myself I took some advice from another self employed person. His take was to get experience, get your name out and make a wage you can live on. When your more confident you can put prices up and get the job done quicker. Personaly I never seem to charge enough for bathroom's as there's always something unforeseen. When its too easy I almost feel bad. Lose more than you win in this game!

Blimey - I've been there so long that I'm part of the furniture.

I think you pm Dave (ideally) or one of the mods and give contact details (e.g. address and website?) of your company/business.
