Hi there....

Wonder if one of you lovely people could help me - I need to turn my oil off at the tank, but cant work out which nut to turn to turn it off!

When I turn the large nut on the outside, the whole thing (including the extender to the plastic tank) turns - the smaller 'nut' on the outside is practically worn away now... any ideas gratefully received!

Turn knob clockwise, it should keep turning. Sometimes the internal mechanism will not immediately seal and it is necessary to pull knob away from tank to achieve seal. Check you are sealed by pulling pin you use to activate sight gauge.
From your photo the knob is missing but spindle is still in place.
Once sealed the two nuts indicated in photo can be undone and body of gauge replaced, O rings either side of body. Knob can be purchased separately circa £5 or borrowed from neighbour.

Thanks Joni.. so I just keep turning it until it seals? Dont necessarily want to replace the body just shut the oil off for a period....

Hmmmm I have no idea where the nob is! from the photograph, are we talking about turning the large out nut, or part of the spindle mechanism within that?

Purchase, beg, borrow or steal a knob and all will be revealed. But leave the nuts alone until tank is sealed.
