If anyone sees this can you please advise me why my hot water is still dripping from the shower outlet despite draining the cold tank. There is no hot or cold coming from any other taps except the shower downstairs wont stop trickling. I need to get to the pump for this and don't know why the water is still present. I f yoy can please advise I would be most grateful as I am running out of time.

Regards
DEMPSEY

Turn off all taps and bung the outlet from the cold water tank and the expansion pipe. If you don't have bungs I've heard you can use carrots. This should create a vacuum in the system and solve your problem.

Good luck.

Ok thanks a lot just cant see why it still runs from the shower but all the other taps are fine.

Can you just confirm which is the expansion pipe,is it the one that goes up into the loft with nothing on the end?

Hi

Many thanks for your reply,I thought it was that one!I did try to bung both pipes but I still got a trickle from the shower. Anyhow have given up for another day and now just got rid of the airlocks! Just the other shower to go now, have no water at all coming through.

Dempsey, you have been lucky mate. Don't do as the poster suggested and bung the cold and expansion pipe of the cold water storage system as this could cause your hot water cylinder to crumple which could cause it to split. You only ever use bungs on the F&E cistern which is for your central heating system.

That's correct - have seen cylinders crush in like a drink can in your hand! Saw this when pipes in attic froze & hot tap was opened in a house.
You can use bungs on cold cisterns hot or cold feeds, - just don't plug the vent!
