I ve been out to see a customer who has a small but busy hair salon. Last year someone fitted a heatrae sadia electromax boiler. This has a small electric boiler for the heating and a direct unvented 180l cylinder for the hot water all in one box.
The problem they are having is the hot water is running out in no time at all. It's heated by economy 7 then during the day the immersion is left on they tell me. I believe this boiler is nowhere near man enough to cope with their demand, the store is too small and the recovery time too slow. They have no mains gas and are desperate to get the hot water sorted. Manufacturer has voided warranty as they say it's been wired with the incorrect cable. Installers don't want to know and neither does electrician.
The heating is fine, rarely used as dryers going all day in the salon.
the hot water runs a hand wash basin in toilet, a kitchen sink for washing up tea cups during day and two free standing hair wash units.
They are running at 10l min on the hot. A perm takes 8 minutes washing time. they can just about manage two perms in the morning before the water goes cold, then never recovers during the day as it's in use all the time.
They really need the hot water sorted and ASAP. They ve fought with installers for too long it's affecting her business now so just needs a solution. Heating the two hair wash basins individually is a no go. Both freestanding and she wants nothing on the walls.
The solutions I've thought of so far are a small electric boiler to run the heating and a 300l unvented cylinder with upgraded titanium 6kw immersion, or possibly even 9kw to improve recovery time. They can have the heating boiler done later as money s tight and just cylinder for now.
Or possibly just change the immersions in the existing one to either 6kw or 9kw ones, once I've asked the manufacturer if this is permissible. But I'm not sure 180l of stored water is enough.
Has anyone got any better suggestions to offer them? Last thing I want to do is change and they still have the same problem. Or has anyone used updated immersions and found they ve made a difference?
thanks
