hi
I have got some strange issues with my hot water please please help😕
the previous econonomy 7 time clock was not working so ive ripped that out and replaced it with a standard immersion time clock. At the same same time the ball valve thermostat had gone so replaced them too.
this all worked lovely for a week but now its stopped. the time clock kicks in and theres electric going to the immersion for about 2 mins then the time clock clicks and theres no power going to the immersion and the wires hot.
I have wired the supply cable and immersion cable together and it does heat the water but the wires get hotter.
any ideas are much appreciated.

thanks

I'm a little confused, I am presuming the cylinder is directly heated and not from a boiler?

Not sure what you mean by ball valve thermostat?

Are you aware of the amps that you've wired together? are the different units that you've wired together compatable?

I think we'd need more info to give you proper advice

I do hope your not messing with an unvented cylinder cos they really do BLOW when they go.
Ditto all other posters, leave it alone, is injury or death worth a few saved quids?

okay to clear things up i am a fully qualified plumber and a electromechanical engineer so do have the "technical knowledge" too sort this out. my punctuation was all messed up in my thread, the ball valve and the thermostat was dodgy but sorted now. cheers for all the advice but was no worry as i had a sparky tryin to figure it out too. he thought it was all very strange so thought id see if anyone else had faced this. It turned out to be the new timeclock i had was faulty and did not click on or off. A new one has been fitted and it is all working fine now. cheers all.🙂

Im familiar with the economy seven timeclocks, the one i had was just rubbish it wouldnt switch off, turns out after stripping it down the components were just the pits! I mean really cheap and nasty, stuff rattling about all over the place. This modern housing development all had the same make and the guy who sold all these houses actually owned one himself. He thought it was a clever sales pitch - " hey, these houses are so good I bought one myself! " Only they were cr##, he had people round his place 24/7 complaining about everything, timeclocks, guttering not put in right (no allowance for expansion), cheap taps that knackered after five minutes, shody paintwork and plastering, drainpipes not secured, carpet
put down with no underlay, boards that squeaked like mad. Needless to say in the end the clocks had to be replaced and upgraded along with everything else and he did a moonlight flip to an undisclosed location. Thats Wain homes for ya!
