hi there,
I’m retraining at present to become a plumber doing the NVQ level 2 then 3.
I have paid for the course myself and have been working my way through the theory side for 8 months now, as well as doing small jobs around my own house to gain experience, such as fitting and rearranging a new bathroom suite.
To cut a long story short I thought it would be allot easier than I have found to gain experience with a local plumber as a labourer. to the point where I am now willing to offer my manual labour to plumbers in the Stalybridge, (Greater Manchester) area in return for nothing more than their knowledge and experience.
I am 27, hard working, pleasant mannered and reliable.

many thanks for any replies
oliver

its tough out there even offering free labour..i am doing acs gas and have contacted 35+ engineers offering free labour and only 2 replied and both negative..its hard to blve but the plumbers just want to do their job and go home as the liability insurance alone is a prob

i'm doing btsc level 3 and probably just gonna hit a temping agency for site work after my training. i'll be a pretty slow plumber and get sent home early a few times but will hopefully get up to speed in the end. i reckon that's the only way to go seeing as nobody's taking on apprentices

Its the same across all the trades.

Even fully qualified and time served tradesmen are having trouble finding work.

Best thing is to keep trying. A couple of people over on the sprarkys forum have just landed jobs after a lot of effort.

Worth it in the end.
