Just been to a callout on an ideal isar he 35 leaking from the back of the boiler where it would appear the expansion vessel is mounted, I've never worked on one of these before but it would appear to access the expansion vessel the boiler needs to come off the wall am I right in thinking this is the case?

Yes, boiler off the wall to replace the vessel. I did one a month back and it wasn't actually that bad. They supply new washers and flexi, so not bad from ideal to do that. But still a pain when you compare how easy a Baxi Duo Tec or Vaillant EcoTEC is to change the vessel. 30mins and you're done on those. I'd say allow 3 hours for an Isar, but you can probably do it a bit quicker if you want to.

I done one a while back...not too bad really, easier option is to fit an external one if poss. even better to replace the heap.

Last one I had to replace the expansion vessel I just replaced the boiler. It needed an AAV, burner insulation and a dhw thermistor as well so I said just replace the boiler.
