And it remained leak free for 22 days (hose is in plain sight.) But then started leaking again on the 22nd day. Would you return and investiage and maybe replace hose/valve/washer for free?

I know they are one of plumbing's most rubbish joints but almost seems like it's more likely to be them banging it while cleaning or the machine being pulled in and out forcibly for cleaning or something.

Don't want to be arsey with people but everyone tries it on and you don't want to run around for free. Just a pain.

Depends on the customer.

Regular customer...repair for good will and add the cost on the next bill or over a few bills.
Pleb... charge them for the repairs.

If you where called to the job to fix the leak,
Fixed the leak with a new washer then it developed a leak again, id go back and maybe swap the washer for a new one and tighten the nut up a bit more but wouldn't replace the valve/hose FOC
If its a regular customer that you get a lot of work off, id maybe say you'll replace the hose for them but they'll have to buy the hose, and then add you 20% on to cover some costs

Just had that problem with both the hot and the cold hoses on a washing machine that was moved to a new house. After I tightened them they both leaked. Wasn't the washers. Think it was the tail connection in the hoses. Local store had new hoses for £4 each. I wasn't going to mess about for a mere £8. Got to take some things in the chin.
