Gas Engineer
Hi guys and gals.

Replaced an Immersion Heater about 8 months ago. No problems.
Few months later stat went faulty (cut out)
Then few weeks later again... Stats cut out again.

What do you think it could be as surely not much can go wrong with it if its all new.
Wiring all in tact. Fuse spured, 50 degree set.

Anyone experienced this?
Why is it cutting out every few weeks...?
Thanks in advance

One possibility:

If the cylinder is full of lime scale it can be touching / shrouding the element. Insufficient water circulates to take the heat away, element overheats, thermostat cuts out.

They also cut out if the heater cover has clothes lying over it. Hence why it says on some heater covers - Do not cover.
Happens often with the heaters into top of cylinder & people stuffing clothes on top of tank in a packed full airing cupboard.
Think there was a thread on here recently about same problem & it was suggested to try a different stat.
Do not replace anything on an unvented cylinder unless it is manufacturers recommended part.
