still getting a problem with a immersion heater i fitted on friday it works for a day then cuts out and no hot water. the hot water is being controled only on the immersion heater at the moment as the boiler is ID.

been out twice and hit the reset button on the element and it works, im wondering if its because she has it on 24/7 its getting to hot and tripping as it should on the high limit stat or it just a faulty element, i cant think of anything else.

Sounds like the stat may be playing up, but before condeming it try turning the temp down to about 60 and make sure the top of the immersion is not covered.

temp has been set and left on 60 im just wondering if its the fact its being left on 24/7 but then it shouldnt do as the stat will control the heat

are you qualified to be messing with electricity in peoples houses? the reason i ask is that you say "its getting too hot and tripping as it should on the high limit stat" this shows a distinct lack of understanding of how an immersor should work, if you are a qualified spark and just havent explained it properly then apologies

no i just havent explained it to well its the stat thats at fault it works fine for a day then stops working and water goes cold and wont heat up untill the reset button is pressed on the stat

Stat knackered then? Continuity, Polarity, insulation resitance, ZS, ZE, PFC, RCD breaking time all OK?

Did you replace just the central rod or the whole element? If just the rod then I'd suggest the element needs changing. If you replaced the element then I reckon it's faulty (assuming it's wired up satisfactorily).

new type immersion heaters with the re settable stat are prone to doing this i have had loads play up and complained to various manufactures, its basically down to the stats being to sensitive or faulty, try a new stat

I dont know why the resettable ones are still made! I thought you werent supposed to fit them anymore?

not the case they were made resettable because a high limit stat was built in to prevent pumping over in the event of failure following some very tragic accidents but the technology does not work to well with this application

so when would it be ok to fit a non self resetting one?

it would not, under no circumstances due to current legislation,as far as i know all immersion heaters are resettable if not they may not have the high limit stat fitted
