I'm usually from the school of thought "Buy cheap, buy twice". But my "cheap" Draper Expert heavy duty sds drill gave up the ghost last week. I considered replacing it with a Hilti or Dewalt, but with prices starting at £225 for the Dewalt and god knows how much for a Hilti, I thought that was a bit excessive for something that I barely use.

I bought this....

Titan TTB279SDS 5kg SDS+ Drill 240V | NoLinkingToThis

It has a two year guarantee and comes with a decent set of accessories. I've only used it once so far, but it drilled through an 18mm hole through a stone wall with ease and actually feels like a good quality piece of kit. Not much use as a light duty drill for hanging rads and such as it sort of bashes holes in walls as opposed to drilling. But if like me, you rarely require a drill like this and use it for chasing walls, drilling large diameter holes and even core drilling you can't really knock it for £70. Plus you just exchange it for a new one if it dies within two years!

Sometime`s the tool is only as good as the person using it the amount of time`s I see guy`s abusing drill`s especially when they don`t belong to them trying to force it to drill through a wall when you can hear it struggling and then the smell of burning seems as though you have found one to suit your needs good luck with it and try not to loan it anyone else....regards turnpin:lol:

I've just bought the same one after somebody on here recommended it! As you say not a bad piece of kit for the price.

I've had mine for a couple of years now, cored a few dozen 4" and 5" holes, no problem at all. Still going strong. Cannot fault it at the price..

I know what you mean, I think coring 4" holes through 20 inch stone walls finally saw off the Draper! It still worked on hammer function, but the clutch was knackered, you could stop it at full RPM with your hand!!

I borrowed a mates Titan to take out part of a concrete floor, it worked a treat. However I agree that when drilling it is a bit harsh for a 7mm brown plug! I bought one and use it all the time for fireplaces etc. you can't go wrong.

on my 5th titan they dont last too long but if you take it back with the delivery note they replace it and this keeps the originak invoice out the picture and extends the guarentee quite a bit🙂 still only paid once in 5 yrs🙂

I've got that drill in the shed. Can't remember why we bought it, as we have Bosch SDS's. My Bosch just died last week (only the trigger but I gave it to a mate who wanted it for parts).

So I might start using the Titan now. We paid about £120 if I remember correct. This was last summer though.

dont like to burst your bubble ricky but i have one as a back up its actually dangerous to use the motor constantly throws dirt/dust in your face and eyes, poor cooling motor design, and could blind somebody, and it got exchanged in warranty when it was 18 months old it was rarely used and the chuck failed

i have one and i am sure it dont have an effective clutch!
last year doing a 2'' core it snatched and almost took my head off!!!

still got a scar from a titan when it hit a wall tie, handle caught me above the eye, out like a light i went, but they are cheap, thats when i bought a high speed core drill fm sparky, on the 2nd of those, next ? problem down my way is stone and rubble walls or engineering bricks, kill most tools quickly. tcd for stone walls and cores for bricks but they get to warm on the hard bricks to last long.
