Hi everyone

Can anyone tell me how to identify where a rain water fall pipe leads to after it goes underground (ie how to tell if it goes to a surface water drain or to a foul water sewer). I've heard that a lot of bad plumbing means that waste pipes from sinks, baths, etc, connect to rain water fall pipes, which then lead to surface water drains:

Thanks!

Hi Difficult to be precise. However drainage carrying soil and waste have access point at change of direction (manholes). Find one down stream from the house, that serves same and lift cover. Check by discharging water into rainwater system. To refine search check the rest of manholes on site and look for the connections. Good luck

open manholes etc check by pouring drain dye and checking where it comes out

First of all you have got to have access to some means of inspection.

You may have two separate drainage systems, one for soil and one for surface water or a combined soil and surface water system.

You may even have what is known as a "soak away" for surface water which you would treat roughly the same as a surface water drain or a septic tank for the soil.

It all depends.

You can put dye down to trace them. If your concerned about putting the usual
florescence down a surface water drain to trace it, try a harmless food colouring.
