Is it possible to decommision a back boiler but leave the gas fire working?

As long as the back boiler is left in position,with all flue ways fully attached correctly to fire and decommissioned back boiler,gas supply should also be capped off from unit and unit labeled

Or to cut out any paperwork and so on just remove the thermocouple and call it faulty 🙂
