I only have a few days to decide whether to sign up for a tech certificate level 2 and NVQ level 2 course- price 5500 pounds. Is it worth it? I applied for an apprenticeship, but still haven't heard back from them, would that be a better option? (am in mid thirties) Should I ask if enrollment can be delayed while I try and decide what to do. The course is flexible and seems good, as it is in the evening I could work during the day as well. Just not sure what to do! Would i be able to find work afterwards, not expecting to be earning much in the beginning anyway.

IMHO mate you won't get work out of doing this course keep your money if you really want to get into plumbing see if you can (don't know how but you could look into it)
sign on to a college course that's not charging the earth and if you have to pay a plumber so you can get your nvq

HI mate I done my tech cert 1,2 then my tutor employed me so done my NVQ 2 through him now trying to do my l3. the tech cert is not worth the paper its written on, as for paying all that for an NVQ you would be as well offering your work for free in return for sponsorship into the NVQ.

you dont have many, tech cert is no guaranteed ticket to nvq or employment. if you do it knowing you may get nowhere then fine

If i could wangle myself onto the course for 700 pounds the it would be worth it, right? I guess for 2600 I would really have to think hard. The only other option (cos i want to do something) is a level 1 diploma in woodtrades for 850 pounds.

Also despite the poor pay is an apprenticeship at the council a good option for a single guy in his thirties?

Just found out I didn't get the apprenticeship with the council- what other options do I have but to do the certificate? I asked the council if they would help me do the NVQ level 2, waiting for a reply on that.
