Hi all, I have recently left the armed forces to seek pastures new with my attentions focused towards plumbing. Because of my age (28) I am too old for doing college courses that take far too long, so like many others I have been looking into private courses that are asking around £5k. Other people on this site have asked which course is better out of C&G 6128/6129; however my situation is slightly different. I am mainly seeking to get some Quals and then a little experience with the aim of moving to Australia. Would either of these courses be worth while in terms of helping me with my goal of working in Aus, or would I be better investing my hard earned money else where, as some people have suggested that neither course is held in high regard by employers and also that the plumbing trade is on its a**e at the moment anyway.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers

in austrailia you have to have certificates to be a plumber, you can't touch plumbing without them, it's basically like our gas safety register over here, so evan if you got your nvq level 3 you wouldn't be seen as qualified to work in plumbing straight away, you would have to get yourself on a course over there, if you got qualified over here it would probley give you enough points to get you a visa to get in austrailia , and then, once there get on a course for there qualifications and try and get work as a plumbers mate whilst your on the coarse. I got a mate who moved there n evan though he was qualified and had experience but still had to do a course but got work as a mate until he qualified over their.

If you want to get to Australia, could you not transfer to the Australian forces for a minimum length of service, (you have said that you have left the service in the UK, but I think that it would be a way to get to where you want to go)

Going by your forum name, what was your other trade in the forces, apart from combat engineer ?, because if it was plumbing it should be of help to you if you go to a trade training course, off topic now my number started with 23, and I was at 36 Eng Reg back in '66, with filthy 50
