lcs pipe to copper

Hi lads

changing a boiler nxt week but the mains stopcock needs changing and it comes out the concrete in 1/2" barrell.
the thread is knackered as well and no way i can re thread. does anyone know a fitting that clamps onto barrel so i can get it to copper? viking johnson do one but its for 1" lcs upwards

cant you put another stopcock above old one or this wouldnt solve anything?

You can get the Viking Johnson fittings for 1/2" barrel, used them loads before. Most merchants do them.

But as above id rather have another stopcock inline than relying on a mechanical fitting that seals with a bit of rubber.

but if as our poster said the thread of the pipe is knackered a 2nd stopcock isnt really possible so its his only option to use a VJ fitting.

Tbf lame he said the barrel thread was knackered and that to me screams fitting not pipe. why not just wind it off and female iron it i dont know.

I'd just cut the pipe back and re thread or break out the floor and wind out the pipe from the fitting under the floor.

I'm with you mike, an hour or so will get the bad thread out and a new stopcock in

This^ I'm not a fan of VJ fittings above 2 bar.

hi thanks for all your replies......

couple of things. if i start breaking the floor out the next fiitting may be in the middle of the floor
which would mean re tiling. surely its easier to get a fitting to do it in place???

and the thread is knackered because our apprentice has mullard it... our fault but there you go

If the pipe come s up vertically the next fitting will be straight below unless you're very unlucky. I'm not a huge fan of mechanical couplings when you can use the proper fitting.
