I am 26 year old operational part time firefighter at margate who is looking to start a career as a plumber leading in gas and heating instillation.

My question is... what is the best possible route to take, to get my career started?

College course or apprentice?

I would ideally like an apprenticeship as there would be a job at the end of it all.

Are there any companies/ firms that are looking for apprentices in the kent area?
Or does anyone know of any companies looking to hire.

Thanks guys

See if you can go full time as a fireman, get a decent wage , plenty of time off, that's the time to do collage course, and like most firemen always doing private work ! I know cos my brother as been in the service for over 20 years, and a pretty good pension at the end, getting a start in the plumbing industry is a step backward just now, very poor wages , even worse if self employed, don't fall for those fast track outfits making all sorts of promises , in the real world doing this job its a fight for survival , The grass isn't greener on the other side, looking at the industry now I would get out if I could, but to old now to change, what have I got to show for years as a Plumber, Bad knees, bad back, and even worse bank balance.

Thanks for the replies guys, there is no future withing the service at this point in time, they are looking to cut rather than employ.
I think a trade is still the right way but may have to look at other options?
Not looking to make millions, just fo be comfortable in life.

probably more money in Tiling and you haven't got the overheads us gas guys have.

The one thing I hate with a passion. Been doing the wet room now, and my knees are already complaining. But what I really hate about tiling is what it does to my nice soft hands.

Great reply...

I do enjoy having soft hands I must say lol!

I just don't know what to do, it's a massive decision to make as I don't want it to be the wring one!

Thanks again!
