Can 15mm low carbon mapress steel be joined directly to copper pipe of the the same size? Without a diaelectric break ie brass fitting. Have checked the gerberit web site and they say this is fine on a sealed system. This seems to fly in the face of joining dissimilar metals ferrous and non ferrous? Opinions please.

Some of carbon steel fittings are copper but painted silver. Can't remember which manufacturer.

Any more info?
Whats the job or problem?
Manufacturers are selling copper fittings painted for use as carbon steel, you would hope they have done some research.

Where is the pipefitters forum?

This is not my problem, am contracting and been instructed by the powers that be to join 15mm mappress steel directly to 15mm copper on heater batteries with no dio galv break.
Gerberit website are not clear on this and I havent got the time to ring them.
The pipe fitters forum is about as helpful as a choclate hammer

just play it safe and tell the powers that be it cant be done use sc3 with a copper to iron

i dont see the issue if you inform them that its not a correct way to install this due to corrosion , if your a contractor its highly unlikely to come back to you and ask to see the spec see what it says . if the mechanical manager had half a brain then he should pick this up anyhows

To be honest have told the man I think its wrong, he has chosen to ignore my advice and says its okay. That for me is now going to be his problem in the future.
"He who pays the piper calls the tune" in this case, as its his company. Some people will not be told.
